Barmek or Burmiak is a small Himalayan village in Kalimpong hills. It is very close to Echey gaon. Mighty River Teesta & mesmerizing view of Mt.Kanchenjunga both are visible from here. It’s located almost of 4800 ft. from sea level. It is a small remote village near West Bengal – Sikkim border famous for Cinchona plantation. You would also find some Buddhist Stupas (Chortens) on the nearby hilltop, from where you can savour a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. A stroll around the village will take you to a local school, a temple, terraced farms and more orange orchards. Trekking and bird watching are abundant and so is river rafting in the waters of Teesta. Angling can be enjoyed in Teesta just 08 kms away. You can always take a nature walk along the forest trails to the nearby Chortens on the hill top.Getting There in Barmek-Get down at New Jalpaiguri Railway station or Siliguri Bus Stop and then take NH-31A straight to Teesta Bazaar. From here you need to hire a car to take you to Burmiak or Barmek (around 62 kms away). The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport.
